Around the Garden

The landscape around the veggie garden is coming alive as well...

Native/ Pollinator Garden - nicely green after burning off earlier this spring.  In this garden we have purple coneflower, coreopsis, compass plant, blanket flower, yellow coneflower, swamp milkweed, butterfly milkweed, dill, little bluestem, switchgrass, indian grass, big bluestem, sideoats grama, blue grama, hairy grama, blue false indigo

Woodland Garden - hostas, bleeding heart, redbud (seeded), paw paw (Asimina triloba) - shade created by massive Bur Oak trees (Q. macrocarpa).

Blue False Indigo 'Purple Smoke'

Walkers Low Catmint (Nepeta racemosa) - a bee magnet.  Really nice grey-green leaves with purple flowers...low mounding woody perennial, 36" width.

Early May...cold and rainy weather has passed and warm weather calls for getting stuff in the ground.  Watermelon and green beans need to go in very soon


Community Garden plot is about 100% planted...51 tomatoes, 26 peppers, 6 eggplant, 2 tomatillo, 6 squares beets, 4 broccoli, 6 cabbage, 4 cauliflower.
